WHY USE CURTAIN LINING?
Curtain lining is used to protect the fabric, mainly from sunlight, and to make the curtains hang better. Lining your curtains will make them last longer which means that you will save money in the long run. A well made, good quality pair of curtains will last for several decades if they are taken care of.
HOW DOES LINING PROTECT THE CURTAINS?
The lining will absorb the sunlight from the window and will stop the fabric from fading. Faded fabric will become weak and will tear easily. Many of my customers will have their curtains re-lined after several years if the lining itself has faded. It is always easier and cheaper to get curtains re-lined rather than having to go to the expense of buying new ones ( unless you want new curtains of course )
WHERE TO BUY CURTAIN LINING
You can buy standard curtain lining from any department store, curtain shop or online. They even have curtain lining for sale on Amazon and Ebay.
What sort of curtain lining do I need?
Most curtains will have a cream or ecru lining, but you can buy white or coloured linings. Many shops do not stock coloured curtain lining but they will happily show you some colour samples and they will order them for you. You can also buy thermal, blackout and fire retardant curtain linings
HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO PAY FOR MY CURTAIN LINING?
Prices will vary fro shop to shop, and it will also depend on the quality of the curtain lining that you want to buy. Most cream or ecru curtain lining is inexpensive, but white and coloured linings can cost a lot more, as will the thermal, blackout and fire retardant varieties of curtain lining.
For more information on buying and using curtain lining, you can buy books on the subject such as the one below
